Why have I been charged an extra £1?

When your order is placed, our secure payment gateway authorises £1, simply to check the authenticity of your card. This money doesn’t stay with us, but different banks tend to present this information in different ways.

Sometimes authorisation charges show-up in the pending charges section of your card or bank statement. Some banks mark it with a * or a P, which shows that the charge is going to be voided. Sometimes it is shown as a refund. But confusingly, the voiding of this payment can in some cases take up to a week to be processed (or longer depending on your bank).

Understandably, people are very security conscious when it comes to online payments. If you find your authorisation hasn’t been voided after a few days, then please submit a request and one of our Customer Champions will look into it for you.
