How long does coffee stay fresh for?

  • Updated

Every bag sent from our roastery is marked with its specific roast date, so you know exactly when it was roasted.

The peak flavour window

Roasted coffee is a fresh product. To relish the complex flavour profiles our growers have created, we recommend brewing coffee from our roastery within:

  • Six weeks for ground coffee.

  • Two months for whole beans.

Your coffee won’t 'go bad' after this time, but the more delicate aromatic notes will begin to fade as the coffee oxidises.

Waitrose coffee freshness

If you buy Pact from Waitrose, you'll see a ‘best before’ date instead. This coffee is nitrogen-flushed during packing – a precise, industry-standard process that displaces oxygen to preserve natural flavours and aromas for up to six months.
